Another COVID-19 meal! Or quarantine meal! Or “this is all I have in my pantry right now” meal! Y’all starting to catch on to my “is this over yet vibes? LOL. As much as the past few weeks have been wearing on me, I am super thankful that my family and friends are healthy. At the end of the day, that’s all that matters. BUT- that doesn’t mean we aren’t allowed to feel some type of way about all this, OK? Now, to the meal at hand. Hamburger Steak! I love comfort food, and I love gravy. I wish it was fall all year round and we could just eat everything we want and never gain a pound. I know I’m not the only one! I actually never made hamburger steak before this. I figured, can’t be that hard right? Well, right-lol. But, if cooking isn’t really your thing and you need a little help, I am here for you! This recipe is super easy, anyone could do it!
Now, if you don’t have Sherry- a red wine will do. I actually bought this Sherry for one of Joanna Gaines recipes, and now I just add it to pretty much every thing that calls for brown gravy. It is a game changer!
Making the patties is basically the same as making hamburgers- combine all your seasonings and breadcrumbs, an egg- and mix, mix, mix!
If you have never worked with cornstarch before then you may be a little taken aback by the texture. Use a whisk or fork to break up the solid-ness and get everything to that liquid-y texture. The corn starch is what thickens your gravy, so the more you add, the thicker it will be. Tip for the gravy- if you want more gravy then I would suggest doubling the recipe. I wish I would have doubled this one, but I worked with what I had. Aka- only one gravy packet.
Saute those onions! Cody likes his onions SUPER well done. So I pretty much cook them down to mush-lol. Set them aside and then start your meat!
Grill the patties like you were making a hamburger, I went ahead and did medium-well patties.
Remove the patties and then start your gravy. This is QUICK. Pour the mixer in, constantly stir at a simmer and it will thicken. Then put your patties and onions back in, let it all cook together for a few minutes and you are good to go!
Serve over mashed potatoes or white rice. We did rice- we didn’t have any potatoes-lol.
