YA’LL… I think I finally have found a skincare routine that is actually working. Not just helping with breakouts here and there, but actually treating my skin’s past damage and helping keep it clear. I mean FINALLY! I will say I am a creature of habit, and try to use a product for a while before changing it. This is mainly because I do have sensitive skin, and I am apprehensive to change products out due to the risk of a breakout. But, here we are!
All of the products in this updated skincare routine have been in rotation for a while now. You will notice some of them have been in my routine for years, while others – a few months. I always want to use products for a while before giving it my judgement and of course, recommending it to you guys. So, I am happy to finally be able to share what’s been working now that I have given this routine a good go!
Daytime skincare routine
Tula Cult Classic Cleanser: I have been using this cleanser since early 2020 and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon! I use it in the shower or at the sink with my Vanity Planet Facial Scrubber to make sure I am removing all traces of dirt and makeup from my skin.
Tula Hyaluronic Acid Serum: I have used this product for about 2-3 months now and I love it so much! I use this for my daytime routine as it does NOT make my makeup peel and it provides extra hydration to my skin.
Blume Meltdown: This spot treatment isn’t new to me, I actually used it back in 2020-2021, but for some reason stopped. I think I just never ordered more and forgot about it. The brand reached out to me back in January to try their products and a light bulb went off in my head like *HEY I USED TO LOVE THIS* so I started using it again and once again I am a huge fan! The trick here is to be consistent with it. It’s not a one time miracle worker. But it isn’t harsh on my skin, it has great benefits and it’s vegan.
Sunday Riley Auto Correct Eye Cream: This eye cream is like two products in one. It treats dark circles while also providing and instant illuminating effect. It is on the pricier side at $65, but I try to think of it as a 2 in1 to validate the price haha. It is newer to me, I bought it about 5-6 weeks ago. But no complaints! A cheaper eye cream that I also really love is the Paula’s Choice C5 Super Boost, it has that brightening/dark circle treatment, but no illuminating factor.
Tula 24/7 Moisturizer: I honestly feel like this moisturizer is the best on the market for the price. As someone who has oily skin, it does not make me more oily, it feels AMAZING and it’s lightweight. They do have a new version for people with dryer skin and this THICC but so good. I used and finished a tub of that in the winter and loved it too.
SkinCeuticals Antioxidant Lip Repair: This product was recommended to me by my Botox/filler injector and I have been using it for about 6 months now. I deal with dry lips, so this has helped tremendously as an actual treatment vs putting on some Chapstick or balm. It also fights environmental damage and she noticed personally that it keeps her lips fuller longer, aka makes your lip filler seem to last a little longer. Which I LOVE!
Nightly Skincare Routine
Tula Glycolic Acid Toner: Another product that I’ve been using for a few years now. This toner gently exfoliates, balances pH, and aids in resurfacing your skin for an even and smooth surface. If you are more sensitive to exfoliants I would suggest only doing this one every-other-night vs every night.
The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid Serum: If you haven’t added a pure Hyaluronic Acid serum to your skincare routine, you need to! The Ordinary is a great brand that is affordable and clean. It adds moisture to the skin, firms and plumps for a youthful look. I DO NOT use this for daytime as it does make my makeup peel. So keep that in mind!
The Ordinary Niacinamide Serum: If large pores and oiliness are your thing, this is for you! This has helped minimize my pores, aid to controlling my oil production, and helps brighten your skin tone. DO NOT use with Vitamin C serum and they aren’t friends. I quit using a Vitamin C serum for this, and I like this better so far!
HONORABLE MENTIONS:
The Ordinary BHA Mask: I use this mask ONCE a week unless my face is just super congested. Usually on Sunday’s when I am doing my “everything” shower. I will use this after cleansing, before adding any other products. IMPORTANT: skip the toner if you use this. This mask exfoliates your skin, so no need to double dip and irritate your skin.
Aveeno Makeup Removing Wipes: I feel like makeup wipes are hit or miss. Either you love them or you don’t lol. I personally am a big fan, mainly for the ease of just being able to sit on the couch and take my makeup off. But I understand they aren’t for everyone! These have been my favorite for years now as they are super gentle and really get the job done.
Clean Skin Club Towelettes: These are newer to me but I am a fan! I feel like using one of these towelettes vs a normal towel has helped with congestion so much. I mean if you really think about it, it’s kind of gross to use a regular towel haha.
Silk/Satin Pillow Cases: If you aren’t on the satin pillow case game yet, get on it! Not only do they feel cool and refreshing, they aid with healthy hair and skin.
