It has been a while (like, a year) since I gave y’all an updated skincare routine. Honestly, I am a creature of habit- so when it comes to things like skincare, I am more of a “don’t fix it if it ain’t broke” kind of girl. While the majority is the same. I did change a few things since the last time I wrote it all down for ya. So, let’s get into it.
Night Routine: In The Shower
This part hasn’t changed a bit. Again, creature of habit. I use my Vanity Planet electric scrubber along with the Tula Cult Classic Cleanser to wash my face every night. I swear by this combo and will probably still be doing it years from now.
What I did add since my last update is a gentle exfoliate. I was using the Tula sugar scrub and loved it. However, once I ran out I decided to try the Neutrogena Hydroboost Exfoliating Cleanser. I have been using it about 3 weeks now and it is working pretty well. I think I miss the texture of the Tula one better though. I will probably buy that one again soon. I just feel like it got more of a deep scrub while still being gentle on my skin. I generally try to exfoliate only every other night as too much can cause harm.
Night Routine: After the Shower
Once my face is dry, I begin with the Tula Toner. This toner is by far my favorite. It has almost a gel like consistency and you don’t need any cotton pads to apply it. I do 2 squirts in my hand and rub all over my face and onto my neck if I have extra. I allow the toner to sit for about 5-10 minutes and soak in before applying anything else.
If I have any problem areas (which I do about once a month, if you catch my drift) then I use the Tula spot treatment to tackle those. I let that soak in for a couple minutes before applying anything else.
Next, I will use a spritz or two of the Pixi Milk Mist. Does this actually do anything? I’m not sure. Its says it is supposed to help balance your skin tone and honestly it just feels so refreshing. I have been using this for a couple months now and will even sometime spritz it when I am freshening up my makeup because of it’s cooling effect.
For eye cream, I have been using the Old Henerickson Banana Bright Eye Cream. I have been using this probably 4 months now and I really like the formula. I feel my under eyes are a bit brighter and show less dark circles. You have to be consistent with it though. It also sets well under makeup; I use it morning and night.
Lastly, is the moisturizer. I was using the Tula 24/7 Day and Night Cream for probably 6 months and then I recently switched to the It Cosmetics Miracle Cream. To be completely honest, I like the Tula one better as it is lighter/less heavy. I fell the It Cosmetics would be really good for someone with dry skin, however as mine is naturally oily, a lighter formula works best. So, I use both. When I feel like my skin really needs a deep hydration I will use the It Cosmetics, but then on days were I feel like that would be too heavy I go in with the Tula. I even sometimes mix in the Neutrogena Hydroboost Water Gel, especially with summer approaching. It is super lightweight and wears well at night and under makeup. I would 100% prefer that one a day where I know I will be outside.
Morning Routine:
When it comes to my morning routine, I keep it light. I start with the Pixi Milky Tonic to kind of wake my skin up. Again, I love the cooling effect it has. I let it dry for a couple minutes then move on.
I go in with the Tula Vitamin C Serum next. I feel like this has really done a good job at brightening my skin and helping with my dark spots/acne scars. I actually just bought my second bottle of this so that I can continue to use it.
Next, I go in with the same eye cream as before, Old Henerickson. I don’t use a whole lot, just a little bit goes a long way in my opinion.
I use my Tula Illuminating Sunscreen if I know I will be outdoors a lot. While I know they say to wear sunscreen on your face everyday, I still don’t. 98% of my time is spent indoors at a desk working so I generally opt out. The sunscreen does also fight against blue light though, if you do want to wear it everyday and have an office job like me.
Lastly, I will use whichever moisturizer I feel is needed for that day. I kind of have them categorized light, medium and heavy as far as how it feels on my skin. If I need some extra moisture it’s an It Cosmetics day. After that is set and dry I can start my makeup.
Special Items I Use:
Every now and then my skin just needs some help. We all know how hormones can make you go from nice and glowy to “what the heck?” in a matter of days. Some special things I do when I need a little at home spa day are:
Vanity Planet steamer: I will use this after my shower before I apply my skincare to just really open my pores and allow my skin to really absorb the things I am applying to it.
Aztec Face Mask: this is kind of like a detox for your skin. I don’t use it often, probably about once a month-ya feel me? This mask is one of the only things that can tackle my hormonal breakouts. It is a bit harsh but it works. I do have sensitive skin and I will use this mask for about 10 minutes. It does leave my face red so I only do it at night, and it doesn’t burn- even though it looks like it would.
Guasha & Jade Roller: On those days where I feel extra puffy I go in with these two items. I also use the Millani Rose Oil to help the tools glide across my face. The Guasha and Jade Roller help with lymphatic drainage, puffiness and contouring your face/jawline. A little extra boost to help you feel your best.
