Let’s talk hair, shall we? I have gotten a few questions lately regarding my hair color, hair extensions, products I am using and more. So, I figured a blog post was the best way to tackle all those Q’s in one spot! Consider this post a one stop shop for all things hair!
hair extenSIONS
If you don’t know, I got sew in hair extensions put in about 10 weeks ago! I had been contemplating them for a while now, mainly because of the investment. I will be honest, they aren’t cheap lol. But I recently started seeing a new stylist for my color and she specializes in hair extensions, so I trusted her with the investment. If you want to check out her page I will link it here: @hairbytaylorrushing 🤍
I asked her for all the deets on my hair & here is what she said!
- Hair Extension Brand: Salty Hair Extensions
- Type: Premium Wefts
- How Much Hair: 1 row (4 total wefts)
- Color(s): Cocoa Beach + Bondi Rooted
- Method: Beaded Sew In Method
Hair Color
We have been working on getting this color perfect since about December of 2022 (which was the first time I saw her for my color) and after the second session in early 2023 we found the perfect formula for this rich, but natural bronde color that I am LOVING!! My hair was super light blonde before we started this process so we she only really touches up the roots and leaves out a few light pieces for dimension.
- Root Color Formula: Redkin 4N 6NB
MAINTENANCE/ROUTINE
For the hair extensions I see Taylor every 8ish weeks, I just saw her for my first move up a couple weeks ago, and she says my hair is in great shape. She said that my hair extensions will most likely last me a year or maybe even a tad longer if we keep taking good care of them.
By taking good care of them, that means: less heat as possible, washing only 1-2 times a week, keeping the hair/ends oiled and moisturized, brushing softly to help with snagging and fallout, and just generally using good, high end products.
So with that, my current schedule to see her is every 8 weeks I go in for a move up, deep wash/treatment. Then every 16 weeks we refresh my color. AKA every other apt I will get a color refresh. She does a demi permanent root color so that there is no harsh fade, but a gradual melt, which is fabulous!
- Hair Wash Routine: generally only 2 times a week, either Sunday evening or Monday morning, and then either Wednesday evening or Thursday morning. I have just found that these days work best with my routine. I will shampoo my roots/real hair first then go in to the rest of my hair, avoiding the seam. After I will condition and leave it in for about 5 minutes while I shave, bathe, then rinse out.
- After Wash: I will apply my leave in conditioner and treatment serum, which I will link below. Sometimes I will also add some thickening spray or root boost to my roots. I let my hair air dry about 75% and then I will blow dry the rest. I do this to put as little amount of heat on my hair as possible.
- Styling: After drying my hair I will apply some oil to the ends and mids of my hair (not at the root!). This will help with damage and keep the ends moisturized. After that I will either curl or Velcro roll my hair for the day, fishing off with texture spray and hair spray, of course.
- In Between Washes: If I want to style my hair again in between washes, I will spray in my restyling spray, which will add an extra layer of heat protectant and helps bring life back into the hair. I also will use a spray dry shampoo or a powder dry shampoo at the root as needed.
hair tools
I am a huge fan of T3 products as they are professional quality, are healthier for your hair and just that they work GREAT. Of course, you can use whichever tools you prefer, but these are my fav.
